...Team Activities (like volleyball, ice hockey, and soccer)?

Normally, for team intramural activities (i.e., the traditional sports), sign-up is done as a team:

  • Get together a group of friends, residence house mates, or people in your program to make a team.
  • Designate a Captain and Assistant Captain.
  • Pick up a Team Roster sheet and Fee Payment slip from the Fitness Centre Control Desk.
  • Fill in the roster sheet, including names, student numbers, signatures, and phone numbers. (Any individuals missing information will not be permitted to participate.)
  • Pay the required bond fees at the Cash Office (in the main administration/Registrar area).
  • Return the completed roster and fee slip (stamped by the Cash Office) to the Fitness Centre before the sign up deadline.
  • Attendance of the Captain's Meeting by all captains (or their designated rep) is mandatory to ensure all teams know when and where matches take place as well as have an understanding of the rules.
Notes:

• Team names and uniforms are subject to approval by the Campus Rec Coordinator. Offensive names are not permitted.

• Registrations are accepted as a first-come, first-serve basis. Register early as space in certain activities is limited.

• Sport fees and performance bonds are to be paid at the Cash Office; methods of payment include cash, debit, and major credit cards. The Cash Office will stamp your team sheet and issue a receipt – DO NOT LOSE THIS RECEIPT AS YOU NEED IT FOR YOUR REFUND AT THE END OF LEAGUE PLAY!

If you absolutely cannot find or create a team on your own, no matter how hard you've tried, you can be put on a "Free Agent" list at the Campus Rec Office. This list is distributed to all of the existing Team Captains, should they indicate that they will accept additional players.  Team Captains have the final say as to whether to take a Free Agent; while Campus Rec will try to find you a team, there is no guarantee of playing if you sign up as a free agent.

...Individual Activities (like white-water canoeing, skiing at Mont Tremblant, indoor climbing, and the high ropes day)?

Campus Rec has many activities (such as indoor rock climbing, ski trips, and all of our Outdoor Adventure trips, for example) which challenge the individual to rise to the occasion -- for themselves and often for the success of the group -- rather than appear to encourage competition between teams.  For these activities, please pick up the necessary forms at the Campus Rec Office or Fitness Centre Control Desk before the stated event deadline.  More information can be found on the page specific to the activity you're interested in here on the website.
